SYDNEY, April 5 — When Labor’s Jerome Laxale secured the Sydney seat of Bennelong in the 2022 federal election, Chinese-Australian voters—frustrated with then-Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s strained ties with Beijing—played a crucial role in his narrow victory.
KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 — The gas pipeline fire at Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, Selangor, was fully extinguished by 3.45pm today, according to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
In a Facebook post, Amirudin stated that as of 5pm, 305 individuals affected by the incident had been rescued and relocated. They are currently being housed at a Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) and several hospitals, including Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Sunway Medical Centre, Serdang Hospital, and Putrajaya Hospital.
“Our top priority now is the safety of the residents. Two residential zones within a 290-metre radius of the site will remain closed and designated as restricted areas until authorities confirm it is safe for residents to return,” he said.
He added that the Selangor state government would continue working closely with the federal government to ensure the welfare of those affected.
Earlier in the day, Amirudin visited the site at 4.20pm and met with Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan and Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad.
As of 3.40pm, a total of 190 homes, 148 vehicles, and 11 motorcycles had been damaged in the fire. No casualties have been reported, and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing. — Bernama
