LONDON, April 21 — Nottingham Forest revived their Champions League hopes with a 2-1 win over struggling Tottenham Hotspur yesterday, halting a two-game losing streak and piling more pressure on Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou.
SEPANG, March 25 — The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) Central Zone III at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) thwarted seven drug smuggling attempts worth an estimated RM1.86 million in the first two months of this year.
Acting Central Zone assistant director-general Dr Ahmad Taufik Sulaiman said yesterday that the first three cases stemmed from a joint raid conducted by the enforcement division and the Customs Headquarters Narcotics Branch on January 24 at a mailbox area in Cyberjaya.
The raid led to the arrest of a suspect and the discovery of a parcel containing cans of tom yum paste filled with cannabis. A follow-up operation at a condominium in Cyberjaya, suspected to be a drug processing and storage facility, resulted in the arrest of two more individuals.
In these three cases, authorities seized approximately 10.5 kilograms (kg) of cannabis, valued at RM32,027.55.
In the fourth and fifth cases on February 25 and 27, baggage scans at KLIA Terminal 1 revealed cannabis concealed in airtight plastic bags inside two travellers' luggage. The seizures amounted to 28 kg of cannabis worth RM844,290.
On February 27, in the sixth case, a traveller attempting to fly to Kuching, Sarawak, from KLIA Terminal 2 was found carrying 26 kg of methamphetamine worth RM824,034.60 in their luggage.
The seventh case occurred on March 2, when two individuals were detained at KLIA Terminal 1’s international departure gate after authorities discovered 5 kg of methamphetamine valued at RM160,000 in their luggage.
Dr Ahmad Taufik stated that all suspects are being investigated under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment upon conviction, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not imposed. — Bernama
