SYDNEY, April 5 — When Labor’s Jerome Laxale secured the Sydney seat of Bennelong in the 2022 federal election, Chinese-Australian voters—frustrated with then-Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s strained ties with Beijing—played a crucial role in his narrow victory.
HONG KONG – Khalil Fong Tai-tung, the Hong Kong-based singer-songwriter, producer, and composer, has passed away at the age of 41 after battling illness for five years, his music label announced.
In a statement shared on social media, Fong’s independent label, FU MUSIC, confirmed that the singer “gently and gracefully bid farewell” on February 21, 2025.
"With unwavering optimism in the face of a relentless illness for five years, Khalil Fong gently and gracefully bid farewell to this world on the morning of February 21, 2025, stepping into the next realm of existence to carry forward his purpose and dreams," the statement read.
The label also paid tribute to his legacy, stating, “The music and graphic novels he gifted to the world remain an eternal testament to his luminous spirit, a timeless treasure for generations to come.”
Born in Hawaii, USA, in 1983, Fong spent his early years in Shanghai and Guangzhou before moving to Hong Kong.
He began playing the guitar at 15 and later expanded his musical expertise, making his debut with the album Soulboy in 2005.
Renowned for his distinctive voice and unique fusion of Soul, Funk, and R&B, Fong captivated audiences in the Chinese music scene with hits like Long Song, This Love, and Three Tour.
Beyond his own music, he was also a prolific songwriter and producer, crafting songs for celebrated artists such as Eason Chan, A-mei, and Fiona Sit. — China Daily/ANN
