WASHINGTON, March 20 — President Donald Trump’s administration is facing criticism for dismantling diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs across the federal government, erasing decades of racial justice efforts.

Among the changes, the Pentagon has removed references to Black, Hispanic, and women war veterans from its website, including stories about the Tuskegee Airmen and Navajo “code talkers.” Historian Kevin M. Levin called it “a sad day” for military history.

Trump, who fulfilled a campaign promise by terminating DEI programs, argued they led to “illegal and immoral discrimination.” The Pentagon defended the removals, labeling DEI as “Woke cultural Marxism” that weakens military cohesion.

The move has sparked outrage among historians and descendants of war heroes. Zonnie Gorman, daughter of a Navajo code talker, called it “an attempt to erase the history of people of color.”

Beyond government, major corporations like Google, Meta, and McDonald’s have also scaled back DEI efforts since Trump’s election win. Critics, including the ACLU, warn these rollbacks reverse progress in racial justice. — AFP
