KOTA KINABALU, April 6 — Those responsible for the brutal killing of Borneo pygmy elephants in Sabah will face the full force of the law, warns Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew.
SHAH ALAM, March 28 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today criticized the Opposition for amplifying concerns over the RON95 petrol subsidy cut, stating that it will not impact 80 to 90 per cent of the population.
He explained that the government’s subsidy rationalization aims to prevent the wealthy, high-income earners, and foreigners from taking advantage of Malaysia’s low fuel prices.
“Don’t believe everything you hear. Many policies and programs have been introduced for the people’s benefit, yet even during Ramadan, they still choose to spread slander,” he told reporters, referring to the Opposition.
“When we raised electricity prices, it only affected the wealthy. The same principle applies to the RON95 fuel price adjustment.”
Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, assured that Putrajaya had carefully assessed the impact of the move and found that only the wealthy and foreigners would be affected.
“Those earning RM50,000 per month may have to pay more, but the majority, including the journalists here, won’t be impacted—unless someone is involved in dirty money,” he joked.
Yesterday, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the mechanism for the targeted RON95 subsidy is still being refined. It is expected to involve a two-tier pricing system and could potentially be linked to MyKad usage.
He added that the government does not want to make any premature announcements, with an official statement expected after the first half of the year.
