PUTRAJAYA, March 31 — Local authorities (PBT) and petty traders must fulfill their respective roles with trust and responsibility to maintain harmony and mutual interests, said Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

He emphasized that PBTs must carry out their duties with integrity, while traders should ensure compliance with the law by obtaining valid licences or permits before operating.

“I understand that many petty traders are working hard to earn extra income during this festive season. At the same time, PBTs must ensure business areas remain safe and convenient for the public," he said in a statement today.

Nga stressed that cooperation and mutual understanding between both parties are essential for harmony. “If any disputes arise, we must seek rational solutions to prevent incidents that could disrupt peace,” he added.

The ministry, he assured, will continue to enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) among all PBTs to ensure smooth business operations while safeguarding public welfare.

His statement follows a viral video showing a scuffle between Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) enforcers and balloon vendor Muhamad Za’imuddin Azlan, which sparked widespread public reaction. The case is currently under police investigation. — Bernama
